Head of Econometrics
£56,000 – £71,000pa
The Head of Econometrics will be responsible for the econometrics carried out by the CC. The role holder will supervise econometrics carried out by other CC economists, carry out econometrics, take responsibility for professional development and training of econometrics at the CC, be involved in discussions on econometrics with the decision-makers at the CC and the parties involved in CC investigations and ensure that the CC collects the correct data in order to carry out econometric analysis. It would be an advantage if the role holder could also, if required, act as the lead adviser on an inquiry, taking responsibility for carrying out economic analysis on the markets relevant to the inquiry, assessing the effect of the merger or the market features under investigation, and then drafting papers setting out the CC’s initial views.

Economic Adviser
£44,000 – £56,000pa
The Economic Adviser will be the lead Economist on some inquiry teams (less complex cases) and provide support to the lead Economist on more complex cases. The role holder will be responsible for carrying out economic analysis of the markets relevant to the inquiry, assessing the effect of the merger or the market features under investigation, and then drafting papers setting out the Commission’s initial views. In addition, Economic Advisers are expected to contribute to the management and intellectual life of the team of professional Economists.

Candidates applying for this post will have a post-graduate degree in economics and should ideally possess expertise - and interest - in applying quantitative techniques in the field of Industrial Organisation (particularly related to competition policy). However, we also welcome candidates with qualitative skills from other areas of applied microeconomics, as well as with a background of theoretical IO.
