John Swift QC has been practising in the field of EU and UK Competition Law for most of his professional life.

He took five years out in the public sector between 1993 and 1998 as the Rail Regulator, appointed under the provisions of the Railways Act 1993, returning to the Bar as Head of Monckton Chambers in 1999, where he remains in practice as an ordinary member.

He led the legal and economics team in Airtours v Commission, 1999-2002, and T-Mobile v Competition Commission and OFTEL, 2002-2003 and has close and direct experience of the subject matter of the Autumn lecture.

He is also Chairman of the panel of judges of the National Rail Awards, a non-regulated body.
