  Judicial control of competition decisions

The panel

Deputy Chairman Peter Freeman and guest speakers

The competition community thronged to the second lecture in the CC’s biannual series held at its offices in London on 21 September 2004.

The event was chaired by CC Deputy Chairman Peter Freeman who introduced the theme for the evening: How much and of what degree of intensity should competition authorities’ decisions be reviewed by an appeal court?

Mr Freeman offered the CC’s perspective on this much debated topic (pdf, 47kb) before introducing our two distinguished speakers of the evening.

John Swift QC, a leading UK competition practitioner and former Rail Regulator, gave his thoughts on the UK system of judicial control (pdf, 130kb).

Mario Siragusa, a leading EC competition lawyer and expert on Italian competition law, spoke on the judicial review of the European Commission's decisions (pdf, 72kb).

A lively discussion followed.

The next lecture will be held at Victoria House, spring 2005.
