NEOPOST SA/ASCOM HOLDING AG: COMPETITION COMMISSION INVITES EVIDENCE

Melanie Johnson, Competition Minister, has asked the Competition Commission to look into the proposed acquisition by Neopost SA of certain assets of Ascom Holding AG.

The Commission will look at all aspects of the merger's likely effects on the public interest, including the impact on the market for postal franking machines in the UK. The Commission has been asked to report to the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry by 24 April 2002. The report will be published later.

The Commission would like to hear from all interested parties in writing by Friday 1 February 2002. If you wish to submit evidence please write to:

Dr Gill Owen will chair the inquiry. The other members of the group are Dame Barbara Mills, Professor David Newbery, Richard Rawlinson and Professor Anthony Steele.
